Invitation-only event for this year's Anzac Day dawn service

This year's Anzac Day dawn service at Auckland Museum will be an invitation-only event thanks to the orange Covid-protection setting.

Many Anzac day formal parades and services have been cancelled due to the Omicron outbreak.

RSA president BJ Clark said Anzac services would be curtailed because there was a last minute notice of change in the traffic-light settings.

Clark said New Zealanders can still make an effort to keep the Anzac spirit alive by commemorating in different ways across the day instead of attending the dawn service.

He said "Around the country there are a lot of Cenotaphs that don't actually see or are never visited. It would be wonderful if people could go down to their local Cenotaphs and lay down a poppy there."

He said people should still check with their local RSAs to find out if there is a service in their area.
