Auckland train delays after tourists wander into tunnel between stations

Some Auckland trains had to be delayed this afternoon after confused tourists walked inside the tunnel between Newmarket and Parnell stations.

Police said they spoke to a man after he and his daughter walked along the train tunnel heading towards the Parnell platform.

They were tourists using GPS who had become confused, police said.

A train driver was able to direct them off the tracks shortly after 1pm.

Auckland Transport said there were some cancellations while tracks were being checked.

Some trains were delayed by up to 15 minutes, and further cancellations were possible, it said.
