SH1 reopens near Whangārei after vehicle fire forced closure

A vehicle on fire at Hūkerenui between Whangārei and Kawakawa.

The major Northland highway has reopened in Hūkerenui between Whangārei and Kawakawa.

Emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle fire in the area at 7:15am.

Police temporarily closed State Highway 1 near Crows Nest Road in both directions while the scene was cleared.

No injuries have been reported.
